Resolved Question: I need a realistic answer from Pontiac GTO owners?
I have been looking at two different Pontiac GTOs that are for sale at a local Pontiac retailer. One is a yellow 2004 GTO that is a six-speed with a little over 40,000 miles on it. The other is a red GTO that has a four-speed automatic with a little less than 20,000 miles on it. The 2004 is going for $13,990. The 2005 is going for $18,995. The 2004 and 2005 are both in immaculate condition (which seems to be the case with all new GTOs that I've looked at). So that's not a problem. I already put aside money for any possible fixes I'd have to make, so I could put some towards a down payment. The 2004 has All-Weather tires, and the 2005 has stock ones. Being the car nut that I am, I heavily researched both of these years. Now here's a big point that has a big impact on my decision. The 2004 has a 5.7 liter V8 rated at 350 horsepower, and the 2005 has a 6.0 liter V8 rated at 400 horsepower. The extra 50 horsepower is extremely attractive in making my decision. Another biggie: Price. The 2005 is more than five grand more than the 2004. I would assume that is because of the pumped up engine, but I can't be sure. And i love the dual exhaust on the 2005, but I could just get an aftermarket Flowmaster or Magnaflow put on if I desperately need it. And the final biggie: Insurance. I heard the insurance on a 2004 is (for some reason) cheaper than on the 2005 and up models. So, my questions that I need answered are: 1. Is the difference in engine size and horsepower enough to warrant shelling out an additional $5,000? 2. I've heard that the automatic is actually faster than the 6-speed...is this true? 3. Is this vehicle bad in the rain? Would the All-Weather tires change its performance in the rain much? 4. Is insurance truly different between the 2004 and 2005? and finally 5. Is the reliability of this vehicle any good? I've heard bad things about this car's reliability (and I know from experience that GM is kinda iffy) but i heard good things about Holden cars. Anybody that answers all the questions fully will get the Best Answer. I'd also prefer any answers from people that own a new GTO but any other answers will be greatly appreciated. I'm torn between this and a 2002 Mustang GT, and I'm a huge Mustang fan, so I need to know these answers. Thanks moreResolved Question: Service Engine Soon Light on my Grand Am?
I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT and the "Service Engine Soon" light just came on (Not the check engine light), how do i turn it offit has 84,500 miles and i got the oil changed about 2 weeks ago moreResolved Question: What mass air flow sensor would be good for my car?
I have an 2002 pontiac grand prix GT that has had it's service engine light on for a long time now and I'm pretty sure its the mass air flow sensor acting up. Can anybody tell me where i can get a cheap mass air flow that will work for my car? thanks moreResolved Question: Pontiac Grand Prix 2002, MASS sensor?
alright, i have a 2002 pontiac grand prix GT. I noticed that when shiting gears automatically there was a lot of strain, as in it would jolt my car . It started really light, and began doing it really hard. Then today the service engine soon light came back on. I took it to a place where I had recently had my transmission serviced and they said that the transmission was fine, they cleared the code and my car now shifts perfectly, everything is fine. i was told that more then likely it could be that I have a mass airflow sensor failure. Which would cause my gas mileage on the screen in my car to go insane, which is has been. ( as in going from getting 6.3 MPG to 12.9 MPG in a matter of minutes.) has anyone had any issues, or any experience with this happening? I know the light is going to come back on once the engine does a full cycle and i just want to be sure that its the sensor before i go and change it. oh, also, i did the MASS test where you run your car and tap it lightly with a screw driver to see if the censor has failed but I haven't had any luck getting a result out of that, I also know that it isn't that reliable of a trick. moreVoting Question: 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT
I have 1000 dollars to spend. My grand prix's 3800 series engine makes 200 horses stock. How much horsepower is this engine capable of with 1000 dollars? I was thinking K&N intake, performance chip, and maybe exhaust. Is there something else that I'm missing that would give me a big boost in HP? Thanks moreVoting Question: Things to do to add horsepower?
Hello, I am the proud new owner of a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. I do not want to spend TOO much money, but what are some things I could do to add some horsepower. I was thinking of a cold air intake to start, and then maybe the exhaust. How much HP would those two things together add and would I have to do anything to the engine by adding those things? Thanks moreResolved Question: What sports car should I look at getting? 15-23 grand?
Hi all, I am looking for a used sports car. It wont be my first I have a 3000gt and now I am looking for something else. I have basically narrowed it down to these manufactures Chevy- 2002-2003 Z06 corvette drove a 02 and loved it. No back seat though.. BMW- I know some one will say BMW and its out of the question. Pontiac- 2004 GTO I got to drive one of these and be the passenger it was nice comfy and had a back seat with a decent engine. Porsche- I drove a 02 boxster and when ever I was on a turn I felt like the car was just readdy to slip right out from under me... It was nice though eh iffy. Ford- I got to drive a ford GT I liked it allot not nearly as much power as the Z06 but it was nice flashy good looking. So am I leaving out any real cars I should look at? Also would be cool to see your thoughts on the cars I am considering. Thank you all in head of time. ~ G moreResolved Question: 2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT Dashboard System Not Coming On!!!?
My grand am's lighting system is not turning on when I start the engine. The engine runs and I can drive the car with no issues but the radio, ac/heater, dashboard speedometer etc, and headlights stay off...they either pop on after 10 or so minutes or never come on at all...when I turn the car off however my radio comes on (since it normally stays on until the driver side door is open). In addition if I flip the headlights to full power from auto they turn on...just not the fog lamps or the radio/heater. I though maybe it was the fuses but they looked in tact when I pulled them out and there are multiple electrical issues and I thought about the altenator but it looks like it's functioning as well. Can you please tell me what could possibly be wrong? moreResolved Question: I sold my car and took a personal check. The buyer stopped payment on the check. What can I do?
I sold my 2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT last Friday. I let the buyer know it had a salvage title and drinks a little oil. That was the extent of the negative I knew about the car. I met the buyer and she looked it over, drove it, etc. She wanted to buy it and she seamed trusting enough so I took her personal check. Four days later the radiator light comes on and she supposedly takes the car to the shop. They tell her there is oil in the radiator and the engine could blow at any time. All of which is news to me. She then stops payment on the check and tells me to come get the car. I do have a bill of sale which she signed when the vehicle was sold. What legal rights do I have to collect the money for the car? moreResolved Question: Will my friend's VW beat my Pontiac?
My friend has a 2002 Volkeswagon GTI 1.8T manual and has been telling me for a while now that it would beat my 2000 Grand Prix GT automatic. Considering my engine is a 3.8L V6 I don't think that it can. Please let me know what you think. moreResolved Question: My car is acting funny, whats wrong?
When I step on the gas pedal my car will not accelerate as much as it should. I can have the pedal to the floor and it will not accelerate pass 40 mph. It just wont automatically switch gears. My rpm gauge be on like 3 and 4,000 but the car still wont accelerate. It just loses power when it hits 40 and goes into like a nuetral state. Its even worse when I have to stop (like for red lights) and accelerate again, because it takes forever to spped up. Its a pontiac grand am GT 2002 4door sedan, with a V6 engine. Whats wrong with my car? moreResolved Question: I'm buying a used car and have narrowed it down to two. Which one should I choose?
First car: 2002 Dodge Intrepid SE. Has about 52k miles and costs about $7,500. Second car: 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT (MAY be SE, forgot to look but has power everything, CD player, fog lamps, so I'm thinking it's the GT) Has about 75k miles and costs about $6,500. About 500 miles a week, yes, a week, is put on the car. Both cars are in great shape with the Intrepid having some minor cosmetic flaws and the Pontiac being extremely clean and no cosmetic flaws from what I saw. I am leaning more towards the Grand Prix because it seems even though it has more miles it is made better, has a better engine and gets more gas millage, but the Intrepid is newer. I keep going back and forth, so I want the worlds opinion. Thanks.Financially: an expensive car can not be afforded, that is why a newer car isn't being purchased. These are the two best cars for the price we can find. The pontiac does have a 3800 V6 engine moreResolved Question: What would be a fair price for a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT?
The car has many issues interior wise. Leather interior fairly worn, the power window control panel can be pulled out the panel under the steering wheel has been pulled off, but it is there. driver's side visor ripped badly. Very dirty inside. Engine runs roughly, may just need a tune up. moreResolved Question: who would win?
buick, 2002 super charged 3.8 ltr engine against a pontiac 2002 grand am gt.... who would win? toe to toe race, stock 1/4 or 1\2 mile race? moreResolved Question: Transmission Problem?
I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand AM GT and all of a sudden this morning it starts acting up. It would hardly go past 65, and then on the way home it would't go past 40. The engine was reving up but it would not speed up. I don't really know anything about cars but I'm thinking transmission maybe? If anyone has an idea from reading this of what it could be any info would really help. If it seems to you like the transmission is the problem, do you think it maybe fixable or more then likely need replaced? Also if you have a rough idea of about how much it could possibly cost would be nice. I'm not driving it again til I take it in to get looked at, hopefully soon. I have never had to take care of this kind of thing before so I have no clue what to expect, Im thinking expensive. I'm clueless and would like to have at least a small idea so I won't feel like a complete idiot when I take it in. moreResolved Question: Smell antifreeze leak, need new intake?
Have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT with 60,000 miles and a Series II 3.8L V6 and I smell that burnt antifreeze odor, but there's no visible leak, no puddles, etc. I only smell the odor outside the car, it doesn't come inside when I turn on the heat. Might just need an intake gasket, or might need a whole new intake. Common issue on these engines? How major to repair? What can I expect to pay (including labor) if it's the whole intake that needs to be replaced? moreTop 2002 Pontiac Grand Am Gt Engine Links
